Robert Pattinson Talks Scenes and 'Breaking Dawn'

Robert Pattinson had some steamy scenes with Uma Thurman in new movie Bel Ami, but they aren't exactly what you'd expect. The Twilight actor plays Parisian journalist Georges Duroy in the new film, and insists the scenes were far from erotic.

He said: “The scenes with Uma are kind of disturbing. Her character Madeleine kind of uses as a sort of weapon and my character thinks like an animal. There are a lot of scenes in this film, so I’m asking quite a lot of myself, and with lots of different people as well.”

The movie is a big screen adaptation of French author Guy de Maupassant's 19th Century novel 'Bel Ami' in which ambitious young Georges sleeps his way to the top. Film fans may also see Pattinson get steamy with Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas, who both star as Clotilde and Virginie respectively.

The 23-year-old actor also revealed he is waiting to find out when new the next Twilight movie Breaking Dawn will start shooting. Pattinson, who plays vampire Edward Cullen in the franchise, added to the Daily Record newspaper: “It will be strange but it will be great just to be able to know what I’m doing. Not knowing when Breaking Dawn is going to shoot – because it changes all the time – is a kind of burden, to have this thing where you don’t know when it’s going to happen. So you’ve got to organize everything in your life around that and that can be difficult.”

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo talk scandal

You probably heard about the latest scandal that's got the entire Hollywood on its toes. If you haven't, let me just clear things up a bit for you: Nick Lachey, Jessica Simpson's former husband, and Vanessa Minnillo are the latest 'protagonists' of their own tape... sort of. The two recently spent their vacation in Mexico and, while there, were unknowingly photographed while having in the hot tub.

Aside from the fact that the pics are ready to be sold to whoever is willing to go to battle with Nick's hounddogs and that they have already been leaked on the Internet, there are yet more pressing matters at hand that need considering. First off, why would anyone apologize and feel sorry for having in one's hotel room? 'Cause that's exactly what Nick is doing...

After the first set of photos was published in an US magazine, the singer's attorneys declared war on anyone who would dare buy them from the mag and then publish them and declared that the two loverbirds actually had their right to privacy violated by the nosy pap who took them. Hitting the nail in the head it's called, because they couldn't be more right: Nick and Vanessa were snapped while in their hotel room where, from what we know, is not prohibited. Yet.

With that in mind, the question arises once again: why did Nick and Vanessa feel the need to explain their encounter? In an interview with 'OK!' Magazine, Nick said the following: 'We've all gone out and had a few too many and done something stupid. We've all made mistakes'. Where's the stupidity in indulging in one's fantasy and having in the jacuzzi and in open daylight? Where's the mistake? Or, better yet, on whose part is the mistake and the stupidity? Theirs or the intrusive paparazzo?

However, in the same interview (out on newsstands this week), Nick probably realizes that he's basically trying to explain something that needs no explanation and adds: 'Where's the scandal? I was in Mexico with my girlfriend of a year, celebrating our anniversary on a private vacation. It's not like I was caught with a Mexican hooker'. Word! Plus, it's not like this is similar to what other 'celebrities' do. They did not shoot a homemade movie and then leak it all over the Internet... Right?

Despite the existence of ancient manuals in other cultures, manuals were banned in Western culture for many years. What information was available was generally only available in the form of illicit pornography or medical books, which generally discussed either physiology or disorders. The authors of medical works went so far as to write the most explicit parts of their texts in Latin, so as to make them inaccessible to the general public. (See Krafft-Ebing's Psychopathia as an example).

A few translations of the ancient works were circulated privately, such as Sir Richard Burton's translations of the Ananga Ranga and The Perfumed.

In the late 19th Century, Ida Craddock wrote many serious instructional tracts on human and appropriate, respectful relations between married couples. Among her works were The Wedding Night and Right Marital Living. In 1918 Marie Stopes published Married Love, considered groundbreaking despite its limitations in details used to discuss acts.

Theodoor Hendrik van de Velde's book Het volkomen huwelijk (The Perfect Marriage), published in 1926 was well-known in Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and Estonia. In Germany Die vollkommene Ehe reached its 42nd printing in 1932 despite its being placed on the list of forbidden books, Index Librorum Prohibitorum by the Roman Catholic Church. In Sweden, Det fulländade äktenskapet was widely known although regarded as pornographic and unsuitable for young readers long into the 1960s. In English, Ideal Marriage: Its Physiology and Technique has 42 printings inits original 1930 edition, and was republished in new editions in 1965 and 2000.

David Reuben, M. D.'s book Everything You Always Wanted to Know About (But Were Afraid to Ask), published in 1969 was one of the first manuals that entered mainstream culture in the 1960s. Although it did not feature explicit images of acts, its descriptions of acts were unprecedentedly detailed.
